Parndana - Kangaroo Island

Parndana which means "The Place of Little Gums" was established in 1963 to service the booming Kangaroo Island farming community of the time. The soldier settlement scheme, which began after the Second World War in 1953, almost doubled the area of agricultural land on Kangaroo Island.

Parndana has been described as a typical Australian country town, there is a small shopping centre, a school, three churches and a modern recently renovated & redeveloped community owned hotel.

The road verges around Parndana provide an ideal habitat for wildlife and, in late winter and spring, are covered with a diverse colourful selection of Australian wildflowers.

On Easter Sunday, the community conducts a popular show featuring local Kangaroo Island produce and arts & crafts.

No visit to Kangaroo Island is complete without a visit to the Parndana Wild Life Park situated just outside the town.
